The Alliance of Amateur Basketball Referees (AoABR) is a European network dedicated to strengthening the role and recognition of amateur referees in basketball and other team sports. Founded in 2023 through an Erasmus+ Sport project, AoABR unites clubs and organizations with long-standing expertise in sports governance, training, and community development.
Our mission is to support referees at all levels, with a focus on:
- Education & Certification – structured training, workshops, and mentorship.
- Game Management – promoting best practices in officiating and decision-making.
- Community & Advocacy – building networks, improving recognition, and supporting referees’ rights.
- Empowerment – with a special focus on female referees and youth development.
Through initiatives like the AoABR Training Module, we provide referees with both theoretical knowledge and practical experience, helping them build confidence, resilience, and professionalism on and off the court.
By promoting fair play, inclusivity, and dual career support, AoABR works to create structured pathways for amateur referees, ensuring that the next generation of officials can thrive in sports and beyond.
